Adeniodectomy for children
Adenoidectomy is the surgical removal of the adenoids, often done in children to improve breathing or reduce ear infections.
The procedure:
-
Performed under general anaesthetic
-
Can use a coblator (plasma field) to remove adenoids.
-
The surgeon removes the adenoids through the child’s mouth—no external cuts
-
Uses special instruments like curettes, microdebriders, or electrocautery to remove the tissue
-
Surgery usually takes 15 to 30 minutes
-
Typically a day procedure with quick recovery
After surgery, children might have a sore throat or mild nasal congestion for a few days.
Most children recover quickly and breathe easier after adenoidectomy.
