Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
FESS is a minimally invasive surgery to treat chronic sinusitis and improve sinus drainage.
The procedure:
-
Done under general anaesthetic
-
A thin, flexible endoscope (camera) is inserted through the nostrils—no external cuts
-
The surgeon uses specialized instruments to remove blockages like inflamed tissue, polyps, or bone
-
Enlarges the sinus openings to restore normal drainage
-
The surgeon carefully preserves healthy tissue while clearing diseased areas
-
Surgery typically lasts 1 to 3 hours and we usually keep patients overnight.
Recovery involves nasal rinses, avoiding nose blowing, and follow-ups to ensure sinuses heal properly. FESS improves symptoms and reduces sinus infections long-term.
