Glue Ear in children

Glue ear is a common condition where thick fluid builds up behind the eardrum, often after a cold or ear infection. It can cause hearing loss and affect speech or learning if it lasts a long time.

How is Glue Ear treated?

  • Monitoring: Many cases clear up on their own over a few months.

  • Hearing tests: to check the impact on hearing.

  • Grommets (ear tubes): a minor surgery to drain fluid and improve hearing if glue ear is persistent.

  • Hearing aids: sometimes used if surgery isn't suitable.
