Inferior Turbinoplasty
Inferior turbinoplasty is surgery to reduce the size of the inferior turbinates—structures inside the nose that can cause nasal blockage when swollen or enlarged.
The procedure:
-
Usually done under local or general anaesthetic
-
The surgeon accesses the turbinates through the nostrils (no external cuts)
-
Excess bone and/or soft tissue is reduced or removed using instruments like microdebriders, lasers, or radiofrequency devices
-
The goal is to open the nasal airway while preserving mucosa for normal function
-
Procedure takes about 30 to 60 minutes
-
Recovery includes some nasal congestion and crusting, with follow-up to check healing
Inferior turbinoplasty helps improve nasal breathing for patients with chronic nasal obstruction.
