Septoplasty
Septoplasty is surgery to straighten a deviated nasal septum to improve airflow through the nose.
The procedure:
-
Done under local or general anaesthetic
-
The surgeon makes a small cut inside the nose to access the septum
-
The deviated or crooked parts of cartilage and bone are trimmed, repositioned, or removed
-
The septum is then straightened and stabilized
-
The incision inside the nose is closed, often without external scars
-
Surgery can take 45 minutes to 2 hours
-
The palate can be a bit numb for a few weeks afterwards
-
Recovery involves some nasal swelling and congestion, with follow-up to monitor healing
Septoplasty helps restore comfortable nasal breathing and relieve nasal obstruction.
