Surfer's Ear

Surfer’s ear (also called exostosis) is a condition where bony growths form in the ear canal, usually from repeated exposure to cold water and wind. It’s common in surfers and swimmers.

Symptoms may include:

  • Water or wax trapping

  • Repeated ear infections

  • Hearing loss

ENT treatment options:

  • Prevention – wearing earplugs or a wetsuit hood in cold water

  • Monitoring – if symptoms are mild

  • Surgery – to remove the bony growths if they cause blockage, infections, or hearing problems
