Surfer's Ear Surgery
Surfer’s ear (exostosis) is caused by bone growth in the ear canal due to repeated cold water exposure. Surgery is done to remove these bony growths and restore the ear canal’s normal shape.

The procedure:
-
Performed under general anaesthetic
-
The surgeon accesses the ear canal through the ear opening or a small cut behind the ear
-
Drills or chisels are used to carefully remove the excess bone
-
The ear canal is then re-lined if needed and packed for healing
-
Takes about 1 to 2 hours; usually a day procedure
Post-op care includes keeping the ear dry and avoiding water sports until fully healed. Surgery helps improve hearing and prevent repeated ear infections.
