Vertigo

Vertigo is the sensation that you or your surroundings are spinning or moving, often caused by problems in the inner ear or brain. It can lead to dizziness, balance issues, nausea, and vomiting.

How is vertigo treated:

  • Diagnosis: Dr Long will identify the cause, such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), inner ear infections, or vestibular disorders.

  • Repositioning Manoeuvres: For BPPV, specific head movements like the Epley manoeuvre help move tiny crystals in the inner ear back into place.

  • Medication: To relieve symptoms like nausea or inflammation.

  • Vestibular Rehabilitation: Exercises to improve balance and reduce dizziness.

  • Surgery: Rarely, if vertigo is caused by structural problems or tumors.
